The flying ones are spaced out very far from eachother but the smaller ones are placed close to eachother and near the end of the game where you would expect the enemies to be getting bigger instead of smaller.Īgro being treated as a horse and not as a mode of transportation is also one of those things about Ueda games that I'll always respect. It's basically put in a way to be as unpredictable as possible. One thing that isn't often brought up is the order that you fight the Colossi in. It is such a carefully crafted game it's absolutely mind blowing sometimes. Just makes me the worst kind of anxious, and it's sooo gd annoying getting it positioned properly over the geysers. I hated this fucker so gd much in the day, and I still dread fighting it each time I replay. Worst colossus imo is Basaran (tortoise). Phaedra (llama) is kinda a boring fight, but I think it's one of the prettiest locations in the game so I like it a lot just cuz of that. Kuromori (lizard) used to scare the over loving shit out of me as a young teen, but now that I've obviously gotten over that I look back on that fear fondly and appreciate the boss a lot (plus it's sorta cute). My first time fully playing through the game I did it with a friend where we'd take turns swapping between our save files, and during her round it happened to knock her Wander like 30 feet up in the air and was the most hilarious thing ever to us at the time lol.
SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS PS2 SAVE PLUS
I really liked Cenobia and Celosia just cuz they were more cat-like, plus Cenobia's stage mechanics makes it one of my favs due of how intense the chase is.ĭirge (underground sand snake) is fucking annoying to fight (horseback + bow? ugh!), but I have the best memories associated with that one. It's hard to pin a top fav cuz I appreciate so many of them. These treks shouldn’t be about figuring stuff out or getting lost, the sword beam should work ever so slightly better.Īlso, maybe scrap a few repetitive colossi (#4, #11, #15) to make it an even tighter experience. And while I appreciated the rhythm of gently riding Agro to the next destination, enjoying the gorgeous vistas as a sort of calm before the storm, some of the paths are obtuse and needlessly frustrating.

Of course, the game shows its age at points (I played the PS4 version so looks aren’t one of those points) and things could be streamlined juuuust a bit, especially control-wise: every once in a while players are asked to perform a series of maneuvers that don’t quite mesh with the deliberate controls (the final colossus in particular had some annoying moments with regard to angling jumps correctly). In that sense it reminded me of Portal (an otherwise completely different game, obviously).

Too often AAA titles stray from perfection by adding filler content to pad the duration, but SotC is a rare example of singleminded, focused design that doesn’t overstay its welcome - and it pays off in spades.
